Essential Internal Medicine is a Direct Primary Care practice in Atlanta dedicated to providing outstanding, concierge-level primary care that is thoughtful, compassionate and unhurried.

Offering comprehensive care requires time: time to take a detailed history, time to perform a detailed exam and time to arrive thoughtfully at a diagnosis. It requires getting to know each individual patient as a human being and coming up with a treatment plan that aligns with each individual patient’s priorities and values. It is a partnership between the patient and the physician.

Catherine L. Dekle, M.D.

Dr. Dekle attended Yale University for her undergraduate degree, the Medical College of Georgia for her M.D. and Vanderbilt University Medical Center for her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency.

She has been practicing Internal Medicine in the Atlanta area for more than two decades in a variety of settings. She has worked in private practice for the past twelve years.

Prior to private practice, she worked with college-aged students at Emory Student Health Services, service members at the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Nashville and Atlanta, and with public health officials at the Centers for Disease Control. She has also been involved with clinical research trials. She served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt as well as an Instructor in Medicine at Emory.

"Dr. Dekle is thorough, collaborative, and a good listener. I always feel like an intelligent human being - not just the 11:30 appointment - when I talk with her. She will leave no stone unturned to solve a medical problem."

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a practice model that offers unlimited visits for an annual membership fee. Patients do not submit claims or have co-pays.

Services include extended visits, prompt appointments, and direct physician access via cell phone for urgent issues after hours.

A typical internal medicine practice serves 3,000 or more patients, whereas Dr. Dekle limits her panel to 300 members, enabling more personalized care.

"I like Dr. Dekle because she is professional, thorough, and truly cares about her patients. She spends time with patients and has an unhurried, friendly manner. She explains things clearly and readily answers any questions you may have. I trust Dr. Dekle completely and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for someone who is going to provide excellent medical care."
